C2E2 Notes
It was a busy weekend for news thanks to the C2E2 convention in Chicago.
: GraphicLy officially launched its desktop version of their digital comics store with their mobile version soon to debut. I tried the desktop version and found it to be somewhat better then the LongBox digital service. There are a number of free comics on GraphicLy and it’s easy to sign up. It will have the same problems as the various comic App stores in that it will not feature any brand new comics. Much like LongBox I found I did not like the interface on GraphicLy for reading comics. It would be nice if these readers were a bit more simple. I’m not a big fan of all the iTunes like bells and whistles. On the positive side the comics are at least cheaper then print ranging from 99 cents to $1.99.
: Diamond is considering moving shipping days up to fit a Tuesday release. The idea being comics could come out on the standard day that mainstream books, DVDs, and music. I don’t know how that would help given then most everyone is used to Wednesday being comic book day.
: Over at Marvel Ed Brubaker will be writing a mini series called Steve Rogers Super Solider with art by Dale Eaglesham. That is something to look forward to even though it does mean Eaglesham is leaving Fantastic Four to do this. This will be in addition to Brubaker’s Secret Avengers which will be lead by Steve Rogers. The full line of the Secret Avengers will be Sharon Carter, Black Widow, Nova, Valkyrie, Moon Knight, The Beast, War Machine and the Irredeemable Ant-Man. It’s quite a mix. While I am not looking forward to the Bendis written Avengers books I am looking forward to this.
: Joe Quesada revealed that OMIT stands for One Moment In Time. It is a upcoming arc in Amazing Spider Man that will cover what happened on the day Peter and Mary Jane would have been married. Basically Quesada wants to beat a dead horse and create even more logic holes.
: Matt Fraction’s Casanova is moving from Image to Marvel’s Icon imprint. For now it only looks like they will be reprinting the original books in full color. No word on if they will be creating new Casanova material or not.
: The X-men line will be getting a Heroes Reborn type relaunch at the end of Second Coming. So be prepared to be even more confused by what book is what in the X-men line. It will basically be the same old junk just with some new names and the ever convenient renumbering to get a new number one issue. On the positive side Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña will be taking over X Force, which will be changed to New X-Force. At least that is something for me to check out even though I would rather see those two do more Fear Agent.
I’d be more excited about Secret Avengers if they’d paired Brubaker with Immonen of Romita Jr, and left Deodato for one of Bendis’ books. At least it’ll be a place to see Nova sometimes, I guess. His powers seem kind of big and flashy for a “secret” team, though.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by “Heroes Reborn type relaunch” ? Because that makes me think of something different than just the same old stuff with renumbering. It makes me think continuity reboots and alternate dimensions and junk like that.
Ah yes I probably should have been a bit more clear. Basically the relaunch is post Second Coming, so the renumbering is basically the fallow up to that X-books event (one of those “this will change everything” moments), much like Heroes Reborn is a fallow up to Dark Reign/Siege and the Brightest Day relaunches from Blackest Night. I honestly lost track of what is getting relaunched and what is new even after reading and re reading the news on that. And technically some of it does fall under Siege, like Dark Wolverine is Siege related but it will relaunch with the X-books as Daken: Dark Wolverine.
I agree with CavlinPitt, it would be better if Deodato moved over to a Bendis book. It would be great to see Immonen on something not written by Bendis.
Oh, I didn’t realize they were calling the post-Siege era “Heroes Reborn.” I was thinking that was the name for the post-Onslaught stuff.
Oh crud, it did not occur to me until now that I made a big typo in saying Heroes Reborn when I meant the Heroic Age. I really need to pay better attention.
