The Stinktastic X-Men
So … “Wolverine and the X-Men” doesn’t look all that great to me.
But then again, I’ve never been a huge Wolverine fan. Ragey short Canadian? If I wanted to see that, I’d watch this …
But see, it can’t be the nadir of all X-Dom. I’m sure some people will even really like it. Some of them might be Fin Fang Doom, defender of mediocrity – sorry, Fang. See, there’s a point in X-Dom that supercedes X3, goes waaaay past the “Generation X” TV movie and makes “Pryde of the X-Men” look like an animated “Maus.”
That, my friends, is “Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends,” guest starring the X-Men in their most tepid adventure of all time! Well, until Chuck Austen.
Hey! No fair with the cheap shot. I would object to the title “defender of mediocrity,” but then I got to the part about Chuck Austen, whose work I do in fact defend. Blast you! At least I don’t defend pure crap like Grant Morrison, though.
But you’re right, that new toon looks pretty bad. The animation looks substandard, and the voice actiong is a bit painful. And it makes absolutely no sense that Wolverine would be the one to bring the X-Men back together. At least The Spectacular Spider-Man is good.
You need to watch the show. It’s actually quite good. I was a bit wary after a mediocre first episode but the show really took off after that. Any questions and concerns you have about Wolverine leading the X-Men are addresses in the series in a good way.
And about Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, I agree that episode is quite cheesy and has some pretty bad animation, but you need to watch that show in the context of the 80s. It’s cream of the crop compared to most of the other cartoons of the time.
Your site is really fun. Keep it up!
You’re right, Kurtis. I need to give it more of a shot, but I just hate the Wolverine cult, and I do think this buys waaaaay too much into that cult. A lot of the elements do seem intriguing, but it’s just hard for me to get over my stubbornness.
As for the 80s toons … yeah, there were a ton of abyssmal 80s cartoons we all are guilty of loving at the time. He-Man included. I used to love Go-Bots when I was a kid, which was probably the lowest on the robot-show totem pole. I later came around to Robotech … but never Transformers. Again, stubbornness.
And keep coming to the site! Tell your friends too! And for Batman’s sake, leave comments and have them do the same!
Wow, I hadn’t heard of this cartoon at all, and I think it looks awesome. What little animation I’ve seen is right up there with Batman:TAS and far better than the stiff and poorly designed ’90s X-Men cartoon (which I loved).
Where can I see this? Wikipedia says it’s not starting until January 2009.
