What I Read This Week

I’m not very good at doing proper reviews so I thought I would try just giving some brief comments on the various books I read from this past week’s releases.

Scalped #34

This is the best thing I read from last week. I have a tendency now to let the arcs build up before I read them which I did here.  Things are starting to really hit the fan for both Dash and Redcrow.  It’s hard to talk about this book since you really need to just read it from the start to appreciate it, which I certainly recommend.  It’s like fallowing a great TV show like the Wire.

The Question #37

This is one of the Blackest Night back from the dead books.  Denys Cowan is still one of my favorite artist and he did not disappoint here.  Like the other back of the dead books it is not a must read but you do get exactly what you would expect from it.

Ghost Riders: Heavens on Fire #6

This wrapped up the Heavens on Fire mini series as well as Jason Aaron’s run with the character.  I was a bit disappointed with it as the whole thing felt rushed.  I really enjoyed everything from the regular Ghost Rider series leading up to this, but it felt like the mini series should have been spread out over twelve issues instead of six, which might have been Aaron’s orriginal intention had the sales on the regular series been better.  That is not to say it was bad.  Aaron made great use of some of the strange characters from Ghost Rider’s past.  It’s too bad the book never found much of an audience during his run.

Siege #2

Honestly I’m not sure what to think of Siege now.  At first I really hated it because of the writing, but Olivier Coipel’s art is so fantastic that it helps balance out my issues with the writing.  I also feel better now knowing that one of the books that will relaunch out of this will be Secret Avengers written by Ed Brubaker.  I’m tired of Bendis now but I still enjoy most anything Brubaker writes and one thing Marvel has been good at is having great stories in the aftermath of big events, even though the big events tend to be rather dumb.  I expect Secret Avengers to be a highlight of the after math.  For now I will just have to enjoy Coipel’s art and over look everything else.
