Doomkopf news and updates

• The first volume of Shadowline’s Ted McKeever library hit stores last week, and publisher Jim Valentino is discussed the project with us. That exclusive interview is coming on Monday.

• It’s not the Daredevil 2 I was hoping for, but Matt Murdock may return to the big screen. I’m disappointed Marvel is approaching this from a “reboot” perspective, particularly as the 2002 version built a great setup for a Born Again film and drew $100 million more than it cost. And I swear, the Director’s Cut is good.

• We’re a few weeks late posting this, but check out Aaron: Geek in the City’s attempt at explaining Batman R.I.P.. It boasts a thesis that does not disappoint.

• Also, the Book of Doom returns this week with one of our occasional thematic double-shots, looking at the final chapters in two prominent arcs — “Secret Origin” in Green Lantern and “Brainiac” in Action Comics. The theme was not intended to be “Books by Geoff Johns,” though it works out that way too. We’re also hoping to restore the tradition of featuring guest reviewers from comics blogs we like, though the details of that are still being worked out.

The conclusion to “Secret Origin”! The prelude to the Blackest Night begins as the climax of the story of Hal Jordan’s first adventure comes to a close! Hal and Sinestro are confronted by the Guardians over their greatest fears.

Plus, Sinestro uncovers a new prophecy all his own as the stage is set for next month’s “Rage of the Red Lanterns”!

Action Comics #870

The “Brainiac” finale! It’s Superman versus Brainiac with everything at stake! No longer content to simply eradicate Superman, Brainiac is now determined to destroy Earth like so many other planets he’s left in his wake. But Brainiac’s ship is full of many bottles, inside of which some surprise guest-stars lurk!

And while hope may blossom on Brainiac’s ship, there’s one life even the Man of Steel can’t save.

Join us Saturday for Green Lantern, Sunday for Action Comics, and then some time next month for the “Beginnings of arcs in Action Comics and Green Lantern” or “Books by Geoff Johns” Book of Doom.
