Watchmen 1970 News Report

What in Blue Blazes is this?
This looks frickin’ terrible. I just stumbled across it on the internet, so I have no idea how much of this footage will be used in the upcoming movie, but, boy, it just looks all sorts of bad. Like, they’re intentionally trying to make it look like it’s from the 70s, but that doesn’t stop it from being incredibly lame.
I dunno, maybe I’m being too harsh. What do you guys think? Is this as stupid as I think it is?
This is awesome! Where did you find this? I would lean towards thinking they put this together as an Internet marketing piece and the news report doesn’t go in the movie as-is. From what I’ve seen in the trailers it appears they will stay pretty close to the frames from the book.
I love it, but hey, YMMV. I think it’s a near-perfectly rendered period piece, the way Dr. Manhattan would have been reported if he were real in a pre-Watergate America. The only slight mistake, IMO, was the animation graphics of his atomic symbol – I don’t think they would have put that in a 70s news report. But I could be mistaken.
I, too, enjoyed the spot. The New Frontiersman has a presence all over the social web (YouTube, Flickr, and Twitter, at least) and they’re subtly promoting the movie with period reports about the Watchmen world in the 1970’s through faux video, newspaper articles, and photographs. Chances are, none of this will actually make it into the movie, but it’s a nice build-up.
